One afternoon we had a phone call, that lead to Dr Emma Crabbe doing something that she has never done before!

A new client to us wanted her 4 little piglets desexed, 1 male and 3 female. This is something our clinic had never done before as we are a small animal practice, but Dr Emma expressed interest in performing the surgery, so it was a go ahead.

Dr Emma underwent some intense research in preparation for the surgeries, as well as our surgical nurse Grace. As we had to prepare learn about their fasting requirements, specific medications required for porcine, including their pre medication prior to surgery, through to the anaesthetic requirements, pain relief and antibiotic requirements. We also had to learn about their aftercare requirements post surgery.

The surgery on all 4 pigs was a success! Their pre medication kept them nice and calm prior to surgery, all anaesthetics were smooth and they recovered very well, able to go home with the client that afternoon.

All of our staff were very excited to have them in the clinic, and it is always great to learn about something new. All of the little pigs received quite a few cuddles throughout the day.
